In 2007, Global Dental Relief began working with indigenous populations in the Mayan Highlands of Guatemala.  Today, GDR volunteers arrive in the stunning town of Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to work in one of two Guatemala locations.

The San Martín Jilotepeque “Original” Trip, begins and ends in Antigua.  After a day in this fascinating city, volunteers head out to the Mayan Highland village of San Martín.

In San Martín, volunteers work for five and a half days in a clinic set up in the local municipal building. Children from surrounding Mayan communities fill the clinic days with broad smiles and colorful local dress.

Volunteers stay in a village guesthouse and enjoy fabulous meals prepared by our very own chef – Christy.  After six days of cultural immersion, volunteers return to Antigua, to enjoy a weekend of activities, local shops and restaurants.

For the Antigua-Ciudad Vieja “Comfort” Trip, volunteers spends the full week in charming and historic Antigua.  Volunteers work in the GDR clinic set up in the nearby community of Ciudad Vieja, a 16th century capital of colonial Central America.

GDR sets up the clinic in a local municipal building and serving school children from the many surrounding schools.

Volunteers enjoy evenings in beautiful Antigua and, at clinics end, travel to world renowned Lake Atitlan for two relaxing days at a lush jungle eco-lodge.
