JOB DESCRIPTION VOLUNTEER DENTIST

... handles charting, tray management and instrument sterilization. Work days run for 8 to 9 hours.

Field clinics are held at schools and orphanages adopted for long term care by Global Dental Relief. In these clinics, each child receives an exam, restorations and extractions as needed, a cleaning when possible, a fluoride treatment and oral health instruction. Care is provided primarily to restore permanent teeth. Each group of children is recalled every two years to ensure long term care.

In field situations, equipment and care is necessarily basic. Volunteer Dentists work with portable field units suitable to allow for restorative care, extractions and management of infections. Portable headlamps ave available.

Work is demanding due to the nature of the equipment, field working conditions, and the number of patients in need of care. Work is also immensely rewarding as patients receive first time dental care that is otherwise physically and financially beyond reach.
